Year 11 vist Sydney University

Secondary School at St Columba

Having graduated 18 HSC candidates in September 2007, St Columba Anglican School made a small but significant mark on the education landscape both locally and across the state. The school placed a creditable 176th in the Sydney media’s top 200 schools in NSW. This achievement signaled the arrival of a viable alternative for Secondary Education on the Mid North Coast. It demonstrated that despite being a young and relatively unproven provider of education, St Columba was more than capable of preparing the young adults in their charge for the rigours of the NSW Board of Studies Higher School Certificate.

In 2009 the Secondary School at St Columba continues to offer quality educational experiences to their students. A broad choice of subject options across all Key Learning Areas is offered. Indeed the number of electives on offer at St Columba rivals that of much larger well established schools and measures up superbly against schools in the region. Subjects on offer for 2010 include:

Two new subjects are on offer in 2010: Child and Family Studies and Textiles and Design. Entertainment Industries is the first Vocational Course offered in the school at HSC level. The School continues to support the introduction of electives by employing highly qualified and multi-talented teaching staff whose initiative, foresight and flexibility provide authentic educational experiences for their students. The staff at St Columba come from a range of school sector backgrounds and bring with them experience in marking, judging and setting Higher School Certificate examinations.

A purpose built Senior Studies Centre is planned for the School in 2010, however, Secondary School at St Columba is not about the buildings - it is about the students and staff who identify themselves with those years beyond Middle School. Secondary School resources are rightly and properly dedicated to guiding students safely through their adolescence. The welfare of our students is catered for in a plethora of ways, and each makes a student’s journey through St Columba personal. Students in Year 12 enjoy the guidance of a Careers’ Advisor, a Year Patron, a Tutor and their own Academic Mentor. They enjoy a modern air-conditioned Common Room. Students choose from a smorgasbord of activities, classes, cultural and sporting groups and in doing so they make their passage through the Secondary School a most enjoyable and fulfilling personal experience.
