Technology

The Technology and Applied Studies (TAS) faculty offers subjects from Stage 4 – 6 in both core and elective contexts. These include;
• Technology – Stage 4 Mandatory
• Design and Technology – Stage 5 and 6
• Information and Software Technology – Stage 5
• Industrial Technology (Multimedia/photography) – Stage 5
• Software Design and Development – Stage 6
• Information and Process Technology – Stage 6

Our philosophy is to deliver challenging and innovative projects that stimulate inquiring minds. All staff in the faculty are driven with the belief that the foundations for academic success are laid in Stage 4. This is where students start to build knowledge and work habits that will provide them the skills to succeed in their HSC year and post school life.

Design & Technology HSC Major Works

The TAS Department is committed to providing students with opportunities to engage in innovative practical design activities. We encourage students to be aware of the nature of design and the impact that designers can have upon the world in which they live.

Design & Technology students at SCAS are offered a wide range of media with specialist teachers in general woodwork and metalwork, acrylics, textiles fashion, digital media, graphic design, film, video and photography and Computer Aided Drawing.

Computing is a vibrant and ever changing field of endeavour. At SCAS we provide students with broad based practical courses that enable them to explore areas of interest, working both collaboratively and individually.

The overarching goals of the Computing department are that our students will:
• develop advanced skills across a range of applications thereby becoming intuitive learners of software packages
• become problem solvers and independent learners
• understand the interaction between hardware, software and users of computer systems
• understand and appreciate the use of the computer as a tool
