SCAS Alumni receives Gold Duke of Ed Award
Monday, 25th July 2016
SCAS alumni Sarah Harrison from the Class of 2015 recently received her Gold Duke of Edinburgh award presented by Sir David Hurley, the Governer of New South Wales.
Over the past few years I have been fortunate enough to complete my Bronze, Silver and more recently Gold Duke of Edinburgh awards. I finished my Gold award in August last year and on Wednesday 29th June this year I was presented with the official certificate by Sir David Hurley, the Governor of New South Wales. It was an incredible experience and a once in a life time opportunity, where all candidates were able to meet him and were invited to his residency after the ceremony.
As such, I would just like to thank Mr Tim Kallmier, the director of the Duke of Ed Award program for SCAS, for all the effort he put in, which helped not only me but many other SCAS students to complete the awards. Without him and the brilliant organisation of the program at St Columba, it would not have been possible. I strongly encourage everyone who has the chance to complete their Duke of Edinburgh awards. Although challenging, it will give you the experience that will come in handy for your future and allow you more and more opportunities for work and employment. I believe that the awards were an essential element in the six university offers that I received at the end of last year and will give me an extra step for future employment.
