Students Place Second in the Madmaker Challenge
Thursday, 8th December 2016
Congratulations to SCAS Year 8 students Hannah Jones and Joshua Blue who have placed second in the University of Sydney sponsored "Madmaker Challenge".
MadMaker is an Australia wide six-week online challenge aimed at Year 9 & 10 students to educate them about embedded systems and their use in everyday life. It involves using Arduino Esplora boards to investigate fun and interactive ways to use science, technology, engineering and maths to solve real-world problems.
Year 8 students Hannah Jones and Joshua Blue placed 2nd in this competition while undertaking coding and embedded systems for the first time as a part of their Year 8 Technology Mandatory course under the mentoring of Mr Justin Munro (TAS Department). These students competed above their age division and design and coded the solution which is presented in the video attached. Support from Joshua Jones and Joel Bryant in producing the video saw judges comments of praise.
"I really thought this was a great idea and was an interesting use of the Arduino board. I liked the gauge on the desktop to show the temperature change, I thought this was really user-friendly. The video itself was really descriptive and I feel like I understand the product. This is a problem I have faced with my laptop and I really like the solution." - Marie Efstathiou, Google Australia
