It was a weekend of creativity, courage, and classical brilliance as Peak Performing Arts students from St Columba Anglican School (SCAS) took to the stage and screen at the 2025 Shakespeare Carnival State Finals, held at the Seymour Centre in Sydney.
Representing SCAS with passion and professionalism, students competed against 20 top-performing schools from across New South Wales. The event, run by acclaimed theatre company Sport for Jove, featured intensive workshops and performances that pushed every participant to new heights.
From sword fights to soliloquies, music to media, SCAS students not only held their own but soared.
A special congratulations to our stand-out finalists:
Duologue: "Twelfth Night" Bronte Hollins and Summer Hodgkin. The youngest students to be selected for the State finals. These students were outstanding in their participation. in the workshops and received encouraging and positive feedback from the workshop presenter and the judges.
Music Composition – “Dead and Gone” (Hamlet) A hauntingly beautiful original piece inspired by Hamlet earned Second Place in the Music category. Congratulations to composer and performer Minnie Yonge, accompanied by Zaza Semchyshyn, with stirring vocals from Kira Mistry, Angelian McRae, and Charlie Finnecy. The piece was praised for its emotional depth and sophisticated interpretation of Shakespeare’s themes.
Smart Film – “Taming of the Shrewd” Taking First Place and the State crown, this witty, sharp and brilliantly produced film reimagined The Taming of the Shrew with a contemporary twist. Congratulations to visionary filmmakers Xavier Yates and Charlie Finnecy, whose creativity, technical finesse and bold storytelling captivated the judges.
These exceptional young artists not only brought Shakespeare’s words to life but also connected with peers from around the state, refining their craft and forming creative partnerships that will last far beyond the finals.
SCAS celebrates their achievements with immense pride. These results reflect not only talent, but tireless dedication, teamwork, and a true love of the arts. Bravo to all our performers, you've made your mark on the state stage and beyond.
