Primary Athletics Carnival Event Page

Wednesday 27 May 2026 - 8.50am - 3.15pm

Event Program and Timetable

The SCAS Primary School Athletics Carnival is compulsory for all students in Years 3-6 and serves as the sole selection event for the Hunter Region Independent Schools (HRIS) Primary Athletics Carnival, which will be held on Thursday, 13 August 2026. Students who place first or second in their age group for each Track and Field event may be selected to represent the SCAS team at the HRIS Carnival. Please note that the 8/9/10 years age group is combined for HRIS in all events except the 100m track event, which will be represented by each age group. We request that students notify Mrs Johnson or Mr Barrett as early as possible if they do not wish to be eligible for selection in the SCAS team to attend the HRIS Carnival.

Event Day Procedures:

At 8.50am sharp, all students will be required to meet their classroom teacher at their classroom to complete roll call. Students will then be accompanied to the Front Oval and placed into their age groups which they will stay with for the duration of the Carnival. Students will move to each event in their respective age groups on a rotational basis (see the Event Program and Timeline for more information). All students will reassemble in House groups for the relays at the conclusion of the Carnival.

The Athletics Carnival is scheduled to finish at 3.15pm, which will enable students to travel home as per their normal school day arrangements. We would discourage early departures prior to this time, and any student who does need to depart early must be signed out by a parent or caregiver at the School Front Reception.

What to wear and bring:

Please ensure that your child(ren) have the following items (with names clearly marked):

  • SCAS Sports Uniform, including hat/cap, correct House Shirt (where available), SCAS sport socks, and suitable enclosed shoes;

  • Sunscreen (coloured zinc is allowed for the face only);

  • Good food for the day (or a canteen order – please pre-order if purchasing food);

  • Water bottle (not in glass, please).

What not to bring:

Please remind students that, in addition to the items that are normally prohibited, they should not bring:

Spectators:

We are pleased to advise that parents and caregivers are very welcome to attend this event. We would ask that parents be mindful of the pedestrian activity around SCAS at all times and please observe the designated speed limit if entering the school grounds. Parking along the Iona Avenue boundary is the preferred option. Please do not park in front of Columba Cottage.

It is a requirement that all visitors to SCAS sign in at the School’s Front Reception before making their way to the Front Oval. There will be designated areas for spectators, and no parent should be on the inside of the track.

Special Events:

The following events will be run outside of the SCAS Primary Athletics Carnival:

1500m Event – Year 3-6 - Week 6, Wednesday (13 May) during Long Break - meet Mr Barrett at the SOLA
